SENTENCE Correction for GMAT with Csquare Learnings-GMAT Training Center

Sentence Correction on GMAT comes with a lot of burden…lots of rules to learn. With the maximum number of Questions (15-17 Q’s) hailing from this section…test takers have no choice but to spend a lot of time mastering this section.

Csquare Learnings-a pioneer GMAT Training Center (Bangalore & Hyderabad) is obliged to share few Sentence Correction (SC) tips with all the GMAT aspirants.

1) Read LESS à Score MORE

We often read the Q multiple times in order to understand the sentence. Remember GMAT is testing your correction abilities and not understanding of the concept.

Csquare Learnings through its Classroom & Online sessions emphasizes on “Reading the SC Question only once, NOT to understand”

Emphasize more on the answer choices, in order to find the correct answer and score higher.

2) TOP-Down Approach

We tend to read each answer choice at once to understand and eliminate.

Remember understanding the answer choice is not important than finding the difference between each answer choices.

Csquare Strategy emphasizes on doing a VERTICAL COMPARISON of your answer choices (Move your eyes from top to bottom and NOT left to Right).This helps you clearly differentiate each choice from the other, to choose the comparatively BEST.

3) WRONG is GOOD.

Do not try to find the correct option, always try to find a flaw and identify Wrong Answer choices in order to eliminate them.

Wrong Answer choices help you arrive at the correct answer. Hence WRONG is GOOD: P

4) GMAT Minus GRAMMAR

A common myth is SC needs you to learn vast and time consuming English grammar.

Actually SC on GMAT is based on 35-40 rules. Make sure you learn the APT rules to avoid pressurizing your mind with too much information.

For example:

“We believe that Grammar is an integral part of SC” .This sentence looks and sounds perfect. Whereas this is wrong on GMAT.

‘Believe that’ is a wrong idiom…To avail the list of correct Idioms...

"I decided to appear for GMAT sometime in August 2009. Some of my friends suggested that I look up for some good institute for preparing for GMAT. Initially, I thought that I could manage it on my own. So, I started to prepare for it on my own. My job was hectic enough at that time and managing GMAT preparations proved to be quite a challenge and I felt like I was beating around the bush without much progress. I then decided to look for some guidance. I tried to look for institutes in Bangalore through internet and found Csquare right at the top of my search. I looked through various forums and most of them were unanimous in their view that Csquare has the best to offer when it comes to GMAT. Hence, I took the leap of faith and joined Csquare. Right after the first class (on SC), all my doubts melted away and I was sure that I have come to the right place. This feeling got re-inforced more and more as I attended more and more classes.

On the verbal front, the strategies taught in the class for SC worked really well for me. Towards the end of my preparation, I was getting almost all SC questions right within the manageable time and all that was just by blindly following the "GMATically correct" SC rules taught in the class. The strategies offered for RC were also quite unique and if one really followed them, there was little chance of going wrong. I did my best to practice that and I got comfortable with it as the time progressed. On CR, the strategy to classify questions into various types was equally good. However, I somehow paid least attention to practicising CR and thats what probably led to some dip in my verbal score.

On Quantitative front, I found the strategies taught in the class very helpful in solving the questions quickly and accurately. Specially,with the kind of approach taught to solve DS questions it was really difficult to go wrong there. Quant is not just about solving a question, it is also about solving it quick enough and with least amount of effort and that is what was taught to us in the quant class. The classes were quite focussed and dealt with a very good pool of questions. So, quant became friendly by the end of it all.

I ultimately managed to score 710 (Quant - 50, Verbal - 36). I would like to thank Csquare for all the assistance and support. Special thanks to Rashmi and Kirtin for all their help and motivation."

Hi MBA Aspirants,

I wanted to write this mail a long time back since I got a confirmed offer from XLRI Jamshedpur for their 1 year GMP program but just could not find the time. Now that this is due for a long while and I sincerely feel what I am going to write down, I knew I had to do it now.

Just to give you some background about me:

I am an Electronics Engineer by qualification but was in IT when the MBA bug bit me firmly in 2008. I had planned it some years back but got busy with my job. It was my wife, a doctor by profession who gave me the confidence to go with it again and hence I started looking out for GMAT coaching. This got me connected to Csquare Learnings. Before I go any further let me furnish the details of GMAT and colleges I applied to.

The journey was a satisfying experience overall starting with Maths coaching from Rashmi and English from Kirtin.

I found everyone very dedicated and hard working be it Rashmi, Reddy, Vinita Maam or Kalyan himself. This is the only reason I could keep myself egging on when I faltered badly on my initial 2 attempts at GMAT. They all gave me the confidence and motivation that I can do well. In the end, I could not cross the magical figure of 700 and I was a bit disappointed but then I knew I had given it my all.

I had decided to go for the Admission assistance course and enrolled for the essay writing and mock interview sessions with Vinita Maam. This was the phase during my preparation when I got to know about myself. The document that Vinita Maam gives to know about yourself and your profile is something that gives you an exact picture of what you have done in your personal and professional life. I made one mistake of not allowing Maam to identify the best colleges for me in India itself because I made that decision too late but fortunately I didn't had to pay for it. Essay writing session began with me not knowing what to write and how to write but Maam gave the confidence to go for it and was patient enough to correct it always. In the end her patience and persevering with me paid off and I was able to come up with real good essays which didn't look a possibility before I joined the sessions.By this time I was convinced about the Interview session with Maam and it really did a lot of good towards building up my preparation. The mock interviews were relevant and made my confidence of handling the real college interviews many notches up. By the time I ended my interview, I was completely satisfied and convinced that, Had I not joined the course and didn't have Vinita Maam's guidance I would not have been able to write a good application to various MBA colleges. My wife who was a witness to this journey had the same opinion. It is a pity that I could not meet everyone from CSquare in person, particularly Vinita Maam before joining in XLRI because of unforeseen hospitalisation of my Dad.

Pardon me if I wrote such a big mail and believe me I am not in habit of writing such long mails, but all that I have written is completely true. I am completely convinced that my stint has played a major role in getting me to XLRI and particularly the brain storming sessions with Vinita Maam. Now I know the importance of those sessions and the reason why Maam puts a high value to those sessions.

Thank you all for the support provided to me during my course and bringing me to this platform of MBA. I hope I can justify the confidence shown by all of you at CSquare in me.
